I wanted to share a few tips about adding detail and expressive brushwork to your watercolor paintings. In this video, I'll show how I make several different leaf and petal shapes using a round number 8 brush. So grab some scratch watercolor paper (Or if you are cheap like me, grab an old watercolor painting that didn't work out and use the back side of the paper!).

In the video, you'll notice I use my arm to pull my hand and brush across the paper. This helps me steady my brush so my lines are more smooth. ( I drink a lot of coffee so I don't have a steady hand all the time). As I drag the brush across the paper, I start with the tip and then push down and then release to create a pointed leaf shape.

If you like this video, and would like to see more, check out my other free tutorials. I will add a longer version of this video so you can see how my flowers come together from start to finish. I hope you enjoy!
